Head of Court of Protection Services

Shareen joined Gillhams in September 2020 and was promoted to partnership in June 2023. Shareen is the Head of the Court of Protection department.

Shareen has specialised in Court of Protection matters for over 8 years alongside other areas of law. She has substantial experiencing in managing complex deputyships for both adults and children where protected parties have been awarded a large award from Clinical Negligence or Personal Injury. Shareen has worked with numerous panel deputies and works extensively with elderly and vulnerable clients in managing their property and affairs.

Shareen’s experience includes:

  • Management of high value deputyship pre and post settlement
  • Applications relating to: deputy appointment, property sales and purchases, statutory wills, litigation, costs authority, equity releases
  • Deputyship appointment challenges
  • Collaborating with family members, case managers, social workers and other professionals

Prior to joining Gillhams, Shareen worked as a dual Court of Protection and Litigation Solicitor at a national Legal 500 firm where she also trained. She developed a strong health and welfare practice and regularly represented incapacitated clients (through their litigation friend) in matters relating to: deprivation of liberties, contact, micro medical treatment, FMPO, marriage, sexual relations and travel outside of the jurisdiction. Shareen also acted for family members in complex and sensitive cases relating to allegations of sexual abuse and physical abuse in the Court of Protection.

Shareen’s litigation experiences includes advising and representing clients in debt recovery/money claims; professional negligence claims and contractual disputes. She continues to advise and assist in these areas where relevant on Deputyship matters.

Shareen graduated with a History and English Literature degree. She subsequently completed her Post Graduate Diploma in Law and finalised her studies at the University of Law studying the LPC/LLM, graduating with a Distinction.
