Term: barrister

A barrister is a member of the Bar Council, the association that regulates the conduct of barristers within the United Kingdom.
Barristers provide specialist opinions and are specialist advocates, with rights of audience before the higher courts, which are the High Court and before the Law Lords in the House of Lords. Barristers are traditionally briefed and instructed by solicitors. Barristers in recent years in the UK may be briefed directly by members of the public.
Usage: The solicitors instructed the barrister in the court case.
