A barrister is a member of the Bar Council, the association that regulates the conduct of barristers within the United Kingdom.

Barristers are traditionally briefed and instructed by solicitors. Barristers in recent years in the UK may be briefed directly by members of the public.

Usage: The solicitors instructed the barrister in the court case.
