Term: elegit (writ of)

The writ of elegit was a forerunner to the modern charging order. When a judgment was entered, it created an equitable charge over the real property of the judgment debtor, which would be discharged when the judgment debt was paid.
Usage: The writ of elegit secured the judgment against the judgment debtor's property.
