Term: hearing: litigation

The trial of a case before a court.
After the interim processes are completed, such as settling of pleadings, disclosure and filing of lay evidence and expert evidence, the court sets down a date upon which the parties attend court for the issues in dispute (which are defined by the pleadings) to be heard and determined by hearing the submissions from the parties legal representatives, considering the evidence and applying the relevant law to the facts in the litigation.
Usage: The hearing of the cotnractual dispute was adjourned on account of the new evidence being presented to the court.
