notice to quit
1.
A tenancy under a lease that runs for a term specified in the lease (a periodic tenancy) renews automatically when that term expires. To terminate the lease, the landlord or tenant may service notice to quit to end the lease at the conclusion of the current term. Notices to quit have formal requirements: it must specify the correct date, be unconditional and relate to the entire premises leased, rather than a part of the premises under the lease. Such notices must also comply with the Protection from Eviction Act 1977.
Usage: The landlord served the Notice to Quit upon the tenant.
