Term: derivative works
1.
In many cases a work is derived from an existing work. Whether in such cases a new copyright work will be created will depend on whether sufficient skill and labour was expended upon it but, assuming that it was, the author responsible for the skill and labour will be the author of the new work.
Usage: A person translated a book written by another person from English into French and is the author of the derivative work.
