Term: photograph

A photograph for the purposes of s 4(2): Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988 UK is a recording of light or other form of radiation in a recorded form which is an image or may be used to create an image (such as data on a disk). Photographs that are part of a film do not qualify for copyright protection as photographs as protection is granted for films in s 17(4) of the Act.
As the definition of a photograph extends beyond ordinary light and includes other forms of radiation, holograms, x-rays and infra-red images are also protected as photographs.
Usage: The CAT scan qualified for copyright protection as a photograph.
