Term: jurat

The jurat of an affidavit is a statement set out at the end of the document which is signed by the person making the affidavit (the deponent). It includes the name of the person who the affidavit is made before, namely a solicitor or commissioner of oaths, and their full address.
Execution of the jurat is essential for the effectiveness of the document.
Usage: The deponent signed the jurat.
