Term: quantum meruit

Quantum meruit is a cause of action that is available where a contract does not exist. The cause of action entitles a person to recover reasonable payment for the work performed.
Usage: The labourer was entitled to be paid a reasonable sum for the work performed in the absence of a written or oral contract.
