The Data Protection Act 1998 UK applies to personal data and sensitive personal data that is processed. Personal data must be contained in relevant records (Automated Data), Relevant Filing Systems or Accessible Records. Processing of personal data encompasses any dealing with personal data, be it obtaining, recording, transmitting, holding or carrying out operations on the data. Processing of sensitive personal data requires satisfaction of strict criteria.
All data held by public authorities are classified as personal data under the Data Protection Act 1998 UK.
Usage: The Data Protection Act 1998 UK was amended by the Freedom of Information Act 2000.
