Term: musical work

For the purposes of copyright law, a work consisting of music, exclusive of any words or action intended to be sung, spoken or performed with music.
Musical works are protected by Part I of the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act in the UK. Registration is not required in the UK for copyright protection.
Usage: The musical work was infringed by the copying of the work without the permission of the copyright owner.
